The helmet

A picture says a thousand words, unless you are manipulating the picture. Nikolas hates his helmet. It makes him very hot and sweaty and pushes down around his eyes, but you can't tell from the pictures. I was distracting him, making him smile and not letting him think about the helmet.

The first day he had to wear it for a total of 3 hours, on and off. Today will be 6 hours, and by Sunday we should be up to 23. It makes him so tired. Sleep could be a blessing.. maybe his head will reshape more quickly as he grows while sleeping. Maybe. And he does want to snuggle all the time.

I am spent emotionally. I think since I was fighting the insurance company I didn't think about having the actual helmet on my son. I didn't think about him looking up at me with those cute, sad eyes... Why mommy?

What is with our modern world and our ancient torture devices? I mean we are way beyond 2001 Space Odyssey. It's almost 2010! 2010- that used to sound so far away, so futuristic, now it's just a number. When #1son got braces with headgear, he looked up at me with those same eyes.. Why mom? Only he asked me why he had to wear a torture device.. in those exact words.

I can only say, I am really sorry for your pain, in fact, I hate it..
and someday you'll thank me for it??

Sorry about the helmet. At least when Niko comes here he won't be as hot and sweaty.

As for the braces and headgear- he can thank genetics for that :) CT has to get 4 - 6 teeth pulled on the 30th- he is sooooo excited :) They can share torture stories. As for Niko- pain in the rear (well- head) but it will be of a short time-then it will be all better- too bad he can't understand so you could make him think he is a stormtrooper or something equally cool!

Maybe we can all sign it- like a cast or something?
